Eco-friendly biodegradable packaging bags made from PLA and PBAT combine durability with sustainability, making them suitable for food, pet, and industrial packaging. A new type of composite material not only greatly improves the biodegradability of the product, but also ensures good mechanical strength and processing adaptability, providing an unprecedented solution to the long-standing problem of plastic pollution that troubles humans.
### Product Introduction:
Biodegradability refers to the process in which materials can be layered by decaying microorganisms (such as fungi) under certain conditions, and ultimately transformed into natural substances such as water, aeration, and biomass.
### Common materials:
① PLA, also known as polylactic acid, is a high molecular weight polymer made by fermenting starch from renewable plant resources such as corn, cassava, sugarcane, etc., to produce lactic acid, and then polymerizing it through chemical synthesis methods.
Simply put, its manufacturing process can be summarized as follows:
Corn/sugarcane, etc. → Starch → Sugar → Lactic acid → Polylactic acid (PLA)
②PBAT is a petroleum based but fully biodegradable plastic. From a chemical structure perspective, it belongs to copolyesters. Through copolymerization, PBAT achieved a balance between good mechanical properties and biodegradability.
### The PLA/PBAT composite material boasts the following key advantages:
1. Perfect performance balance: Combining rigidity and toughness
-PLA provides strength and hardness. Pure PLA is brittle and glass-like, prone to breaking, while PLA serves as the material's backbone and support structure.
-PBAT delivers flexibility and stretchability: While pure PBAT is too soft to maintain shape, it offers the soft feel of traditional PE plastic bags with impact and tear resistance.
Result: The PLA/PBAT blend successfully produces fully biodegradable plastic bags that are both durable and flexible, with a texture and feel that closely resemble traditional plastic shopping bags.
2. Reliable and complete biodegradability
-PLA is a "rigid degradation skeleton": it first becomes brittle and cracked under the action of heat and moisture in compost.
-PBAT is a "flexible degradation pioneer": Its molecular chains are more susceptible to microbial attack, typically degrading faster than PLA, thereby creating a more favorable environment for microbial breakdown of PLA.
Result: In certified industrial composting facilities, PLA/PBAT products can be fully decomposed into carbon dioxide, water, and humus within months, leaving no microplastics or toxic residues. This is their fundamental advantage over 'non-biodegradable' or 'partially biodegradable' materials.
### Important Note:
The environmental benefits of PLA/PBAT products can only be fully realized in industrial composting facilities. Do not discard or mix them with regular plastic recycling to avoid negative impacts.
